Sing! Movie Review

I went in thinking it was another kids film that was going to be slightly funny in places only to be surprised with one of the greatest kids films I have seen since Tangled. Through out the whole film I found myself laughing with the relatable characters.

***

The film follows six animal attempting to win a singing competition hosted by a koala attempting to save his failing theater from destruction. The feel good family film allows you to follow the different stories of the animals whilst following their unlikely story of them becoming friends. With the amazing voices of Jennifer Hudson to Tori Kelly and Taron Egerton this a new favorite of mine.

At first I was little hesitant once I heard that an hour and fifty minute film contained eighty five musical numbers however the construction of this film was brilliant. From the audition section which brought out the best of reality TV talent contest auditions; the strange and funny ones. From Nicki Minaj's, Anaconda preformed by three rabbits to Hallelujah performed by an elephant it was all executed brilliantly.

Taron Egerton is the new up and coming star in music or should be from his performance during the new children's musical. His heartbreaking version of The Way I Feel Inside originally performed by The Zombies, honestly moved something inside of me and almost moved me to tears. On the other end of the scale was his penultimate number, I'm Still Standing by Stevie Wonder had both me and my best friend dancing in our seats.

Scarlett Johansson's character of a cheated on hedgehog named Ash made this movie for me. The relatable yet cliche character of a young girl coming up from where her boyfriend that cheated on her to perform in front of millions was such a great character that made the film.

***

Meenah was the most relatable character to me as being a performer with confidence issues it showed her transformation throughout the film which was understandable and she had a character who had her realization that she was more than what she appeared. Tori Kelly's spectacular voice bought Meenah to life and she is another up and coming star.

Overall this film is such a great family friendly film that will have not only children but the adults in the audience laughing along with it and I would recommend it to anyone who is into comedy films.
